Sometimes a domain needs to be unlocked, and sometimes a domain name cannot be transferred if has only been recently registered or transferred to a new Registrant.

If you are able to transfer, two buttons will appear asking you to login, if you are already a customer, or signup if you are not.

Once you've signed up, or logged in , youll be asked to select an existing profile or create a new one. You'll also be asked to read and accept the Terms and Conditions.

Then you press the transfer button and wait for the trasnfer authorisation email to arrive.

Once the Transfer Authorisation email arrives, select the appropriate link in the email and then enter your trasnfer password on the page that appears and select the approve button.

Transfers can take up to 7 days to complete.

2. How do I transfer a name away from whois.com.au?

Ouch! If you find that you really want to take your domain to another place, then the first step is to initiate the transfer from the new Registrar's website. You will need a transfer password to transfer away.

Your transfer password is written on your original domain complation notice. If you've misplaced the completion note, please email support at whois.com.au and request to be sent your domain transfer password.

This is the only way to start the process for a transfer away. Different domain extensions take different times to transfer, and have different requirements.

If you find we aren't so bad after all and you want to come back, you'll always be welcome. Just follow the instructions above for transferring in.

4. What happens with the DNS for a name that is being transferred?

This depends on the Registrar and the services that are provided by the Registrar as a part of your registration. In most cases the DNS settings will remain the same.
Please Note: This will not be the case if your old Registrar is providing DNS or hosting services in addition to hosting the nameserver records.
