1. The information in the WHOIS database about my site is incorrect. How can I correct it?
The information in the WHOIS database can normally be corrected by visiting the website where you originally registered your domain name. You can register domain names through a Reseller or a Registrar.
As an example, if you purchased your domain name from your web designer, then you would normally contact the same person again to change details visible in the WHOIS database. If you registered the name yourself, then you would make the changes at the site where you originally registered the domain.
2. I'd like to register a .com domain that is coming up as expired. Why does it say the name is taken if the WHOIS lookup says it is EXPIRED?
General Whois lookups in the .com don't cover the period after the renewal grace period expires. That is, they don't cover Redemption periods or Pending Delete. The Grace Period is 30 days , Redemption is 30 Days , Pending delete is 7 days plus an unknown random period up to 7 days.
3. The WHOIS query interface is telling me that my ip is blacklisted for 24 hours. Is this right?
Unfortunately, this is probably correct. Some Registries prevent the bulk harvesting of WHOIS or contact details by limiting the number of queries that come from a given IP address.
4. Is WHOIS privacy available in the .au, and how much does it cost?
WHOIS privacy is now available in the .com, .net and .org extensions.
If you want to protect the privacy of an individual's details in the .au when doing a company registration, it is allowable to use role descriptors such as "The Manager" or "The Directors" in your contact details for a .au registration.
