In the case of a .com.au, .net.au, .org.au, .asn.au, or .id.au, you'll need to have access to the Registrant's email address, or you will not be able to receive and approve the transfer request that is sent by email.
The Registrant's email address can be checked prior to initiating a transfer by visiting the WHOIS database and conducting a WHOIS SEARCH.
