1.No answer is returning when I do a domain query. Am I doing something wrong?

If the query interface is not returning an answer, please take the time to let us know so we can try and fix your issue.

2. I want to register a .com.au domain name, do I need to have a business or company name?

In most cases the answer is yes.
You can only register a name in the .com.au or .net.au if you have an ABN, ABR, BN or Australian Trademark. More details are available on our page that talks about these domains. If you don't know your ABN, ABR, or ACN, you can search using our ABN Lookup, ABR Lookup, or ACN Lookup.

3. Can I reserve a domain name?

It is not possible to reserve a domain name.
Domain names are registered on a first comes first served basis.

4. I want to register a .org.au domain name, do I have to be a charity/non profit?

In most cases the answer is yes.
You can only register a name in the .org.au if you are a charity, non profit, or club. More details are available on our page that talks about these domains.

5. Can I keep my name and email address private?

You can use our WHOIS privacy service to keep your personal details private. WHOIS Privacy is currently only available in the domain registries that allow them.

In the .au, WHOIS privacy is not possible, however, because in many/most cases, you need to have an ABN/ACN or BN anyway, it IS possible to use descriptors in your registration, so instead of using own personal first name last name, you might use something else like "The Manager".
